2. Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (Taipei)
A grand white memorial hall with vast squares, built in 1980 to honor Chiang Kai-shek. The guard-changing ceremony is a highlight. Best in spring or autumn. About 10 min by MRT from Taipei Main Station. Allow 1 hour. Great shots from the stairs below.
3. National Palace Museum (Taipei)
One of the world’s top museums, housing 700,000 Chinese imperial artifacts. Famous for the Jadeite Cabbage and Meat-shaped Stone. Open year-round. About 30 min by bus from Taipei Main Station. Allow 2–3 hours. The front façade and exhibition highlights are photo-worthy.
4. Longshan Temple (Taipei)
Founded in 1738, this is Taipei’s oldest temple, dedicated to Guanyin. Bustling during Lunar New Year. About 5 min by MRT from Taipei Main Station. Allow 30–60 min. Lanterns and red gates are iconic shots.
5. Sun Moon Lake (Nantou)
Taiwan’s largest lake, shaped like the sun and moon. Popular for boat cruises and lakeside cycling. Best in autumn. About 1.5 hr by bus from Taichung. A half-day visit is recommended. The scenic view from Wenwu Temple is stunning.
6. Taroko Gorge (Hualien)
Dramatic marble cliffs and a turquoise river form this national park. Swallow Grotto and Tunnel of Nine Turns are highlights. Best in spring or autumn. About 1 hr by bus from Hualien Station. A half-day visit is suggested. Best photos from cliffside viewpoints.
7. Alishan Forest Railway (Chiayi)
A heritage mountain railway built during Japanese rule, climbing above 2000m. Famous for sunrise and cherry blossoms. Best in spring. Access via Chiayi Station. Half to full day recommended. The sunrise at Zhushan Station is iconic.
8. Kenting National Park (Pingtung)
Taiwan’s southernmost resort with white beaches and coral reefs. Ideal for marine sports. Best in summer. About 2.5 hr by bus from Kaohsiung. Half to full day. The lighthouse at Eluanbi offers photo spots.
9. Jiufen Old Street (New Taipei)
A hillside town with lantern-lit streets and teahouses, said to inspire film settings. Best in autumn or winter evenings. About 1.5 hr by bus from Taipei. 2–3 hr recommended. Classic shot: A-Mei Teahouse street view.
10. Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf (New Taipei)
A riverside harbor with the iconic “Lover’s Bridge.” Famous for sunsets. Best in the late afternoon. About 50 min by MRT and bus from Taipei. 1–2 hr visit. The sunset from the bridge is unforgettable.
11. Shilin Night Market (Taipei)
Taiwan’s largest night market, buzzing with street food and games. Best after 6 pm. About 15 min by MRT from Taipei Main Station. 1–2 hr suggested. Entrance neon and food stalls make lively photos.
12. Ximending (Taipei)
A trendy youth district, filled with shops, cafés, and street art. Often compared to Shibuya. Bustling year-round. About 5 min by MRT from Taipei Main Station. 1–2 hr recommended. The Red House area is photogenic.
13. Beitou Hot Springs (Taipei)
A famous hot spring area with a museum and the steaming Thermal Valley. Popular in winter. About 30 min by MRT from Taipei Main Station. 2 hr suggested. The steam rising from Thermal Valley is photo-worthy.
14. Maokong Gondola (Taipei)
A cable car linking the city to tea plantations and mountains. Best on clear days. Board at Taipei Zoo Station. 1–2 hr visit. Glass-bottom cabins offer great views.
15. Qingshui Cliff (Hualien)
Towering coastal cliffs rising 1000m above the Pacific. Stunning scenery, best in spring–autumn. About 40 min by car from Hualien. 30–60 min visit. Suhua Highway viewpoints are ideal for photos.
16. Yangmingshan National Park (Taipei)
A volcanic park with cherry blossoms in spring, hot springs in winter, and hiking trails. About 1 hr by bus from Taipei. Half-day suggested. Xiaoyoukeng fumaroles are dramatic photo spots.
17. Lukang Old Street (Changhua)
A historic town with Qing-era architecture, temples, and crafts. Best in spring or autumn. About 1 hr by bus from Taichung. 2–3 hr stay. Red-brick alleys are picturesque.
18. Rainbow Village (Taichung)
The original village was mostly demolished in 2022. It has been redeveloped into the smaller “Rainbow Art Park,” featuring reproductions of the original murals. Check the latest info before visiting. About 30 min by bus from Taichung. Allow 30 min.
19. Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum (Kaohsiung)
Opened in 2011, featuring a giant Buddha and a temple complex. Autumn–winter best. About 1 hr by bus from Kaohsiung. 2–3 hr visit. The plaza in front of the Buddha statue is iconic.
20. Anping Fort (Tainan)
A 17th-century Dutch-built fort, Taiwan’s oldest. Historic walls remain. Best in spring or autumn. About 30 min by bus from Tainan. 1 hr stay. Views from the tower are photo highlights.
21. Love River (Kaohsiung)
A scenic urban river with night lights and cafés. Best in spring or autumn evenings. A few stops by MRT or a 10-min taxi ride from Kaohsiung Station. 1 hr visit. Night reflections from riverside promenades are lovely.
22. Yushan (Jade Mountain) (Nantou, Chiayi, Kaohsiung)
Taiwan’s highest peak at 3952m, sacred to hikers. Best climbed in spring or autumn. Accessing the trailhead requires time and planning. 1–2 day hike. The sunrise from the summit is breathtaking.
23. Cijin Peninsula (Kaohsiung)
A short ferry ride from Kaohsiung. Known for seafood and beaches. Best in summer. About 10 min ferry from Gushan District. 2–3 hr stay. The sunset on the beach is perfect for photos.
24. Yehliu Geopark (New Taipei)
A coastal park with unique rock formations, including the “Queen’s Head.” Note: the Queen’s Head rock is eroding and at risk of collapse. A replica has been placed in the park. Best in spring or autumn. About 1.5 hr by bus from Taipei. 1–2 hr visit.
